A few weeks ago I saw this trailer for a movie called “The Wrong Girls” and I’ll be honest… it looked pretty funny.
It must be on some sort of very limited release because for every movie theater it’s playing in here in NYC, it has only like one screening a day. So I decided to go to take a half day and go to an early matinee.
I’m going to try to keep this review as spoiler-free as possible.
Upon leaving my apartment, I realized that I left my edibles upstairs. I should also share that I didn’t really tell my job that I was going to show up late, nor did I tell my significant other that I was blowing off work. This was a total “ME DAY”. But luckily there’s a bodega near me that sells some hemp-infused beverages.
I’ll be honest, I went to the wrong theater. And I got there with two minutes to spare. Could I make it to the correct theater over 15 minutes away? Well, I did. I caught just one of the trailers, and the movie started.
I should also share that the infused beverage was working by now, so while I was a little sweaty from running to and from the subway, I was in a great mood.
Again, I don’t want to spoil the story. But these were definitely the “wrong” girls for the funny adventure they found themselves in. But sometimes being wrong can go a little better than being the obvious choice, you know?
If you like seeing films a little elevated, which I do!
BTW, I’m batting a thousand when it comes to enjoying movies while a little high. It always works!
Anyway, if that’s your thing. I’d say definitely see this in the theater with friends. I watched it with a bunch of strangers I hadn’t met yet (a.k.a. strangers!). In fact… I never met any of them. But I hope they enjoyed my laughter.
I saw a clip from an interview with writer/director Dylan Meyer, who said this took 14 years to get made. Damn! That’s a lot of years of striving and hoping. I applaud the effort and the result. Cheers!
If you think this movie isn’t for you, you might be right. Otherwise, I found it fun, funny, and even oddly inspiring.
And if “The Wrong Girls” doesn’t find its audience in the theater, hopefully it catches fire on streaming, where more fans of the right vibe can enjoy the story in the comfort of their home, basement, friend’s couch, etc.

The last thing I’ll say is… although I’m a fan, a small part of me wants to sue the filmmakers! The whole time I was watching this outrageous movie, I kept on thinking, “But that happened to me! Did they somehow steal my life story?!” I’m probably overreacting. Similar things can happen to different people all the time.
There you go. That’s my spoiler-free review. No stars because rating systems are trash. Like it or don’t. Hover or move on. That’s my philosophy.
